OUR DIOR BONDAGE BAG & THE DESIGN LEGACY OF JOHN GALLIANO (ABOUT SOME OF HIS WILD FASHION MOMENTS, NOT COMMENTS)
The historical Dior period under the direction of theatrical, yet controversial John Galliano has left behind a riveting legacy of occult runway moments that continue to grow in creative ferocity over time. 20 years later, his 15 years spent at the helm of the French luxury house are the subject of books, Instagram accounts, tweets, and museum exhibitions, while the pieces remain among the most sought-after vintage items. Fascinated by Parisian prostitutes and Marie Antoinette, Galliano treated fashion as a medium of mythical narrative. He famously put together theatre shows on the catwalks, encouraging his models not to act like clothes hangers and rather embody all kinds of strong characters: from Madame Butterfly to gypsies, BDSM brides and medieval warriors. He has famously stated, “The joy of dressing is an art”; “if you want easy, don’t pick fashion”, as his creative manifesto lived up to his words, incarnated in his fantasy canon of costumes, make-up, and riveting characters. Paradoxically, through the smoke of extreme dramatic expression, were also parading some of the most commercially successful pieces of the decade, such as the Saddle bag, which was even rereleased by Dior in 2018.

Among our selection of vintage Dior pieces is a memorable vestige of Galliano designs: the Bondage Bag presented during his Christian Dior Fall 2003 Ready-to-Wear show. In a parade of fatal courtesans wearing Kabuki-inspired make-up looks and going ballistic in reinterpreted garments of Chinese, Japanese and Rococo inspiration, under the waves of organza ruffles, there were lurking fetishistic patent baguette bags with bondage accessories. And one of those is hiding in our Dressingz vault: in patent black leather, with silver minaudiere rigid hardware and bondage straps. Ours is in the mini dimension, lays almost flat, but allows just enough space for essentials.  The Dior bag is a vintage treasure that can be the coolest evening bag in today’s wardrobe, at an excellent price and in perfect condition.
