Emblematic for British luxury, the house of Burberry noted the timeless trench-coat, check print and equestrian influences among its iconic fashion codes. Initially focusing on the both functional and chic design of outdoors attire, the success of Burberry was paradoxically born in the wreck of WWI, when the founder adapted the gabardine trench-coat to meet the needs of military officers, the garment being later popularized among civilians. The family-owned brand had also designed aviation attire, dressed the first men to reach the South Pole and climbers of Mount Everest. Today, the label includes a vast ready-to-wear collection, englobing womenswear, menswear and childrenswear, and blending the lines between neat modernity and British classicism. As for the infamous Burberry check print, it was initially used as coats lining, but is currently among the everlasting symbols of the brand, adorning everything from coats, to cashmere scarfs, poplin shirts and leather goods. Today, after undergoing major changes under the artistic view of Riccardo Tisci, becoming bolder and trendy in the past few years, Burberry has just announced its replacement with Dion Lee, the former Creative Director responsible for the most recent refreshment of the Bottega Veneta house.
